Why Cruise Guests Stay Here

Seven practical reasons to stay before and after your cruise

We're Close to PortMiami

Being near the water is one thing. Being set up for a smooth morning is another.

Unlike many hotels in Brickell or Miami Beach, staying here means you’re not starting your day in the middle of downtown congestion or resort corridors. You’re close enough to the port to keep timing simple and far enough out to keep the night before quiet.

It won’t guarantee a traffic-free morning, but it does mean fewer variables to think about before you head out.

How far is The Vagabond Hotel from PortMiami?
The Vagabond Hotel is about 5 miles from PortMiami, approximately a 20-minute drive by rideshare or taxi via Biscayne Boulevard. Drive times can increase on cruise turnaround mornings when multiple ships are boarding and disembarking. For parking options, timing windows, and a terminal overview, see our PortMiami guide.

No Resort Fees

At our boutique hotel, what you see is what you pay. Your rate includes self-parking during your stay, Wi-Fi, morning coffee, bottled water, and access to our pool and gym. Many Downtown Miami and Miami Beach hotels add $30 to $65 per night in mandatory resort fees. We don't. That just means more time with our mosaic mermaid while you're here.

A Good Night's Sleep

Rooms range up to 355 square feet, with mid-century modern furniture, rainfall showers, plush bedding, and hypoallergenic mattresses because your vacation starts the night before you board, not when the ship leaves the dock.

You'll find the practical details that matter most: cozy robes, complimentary bottled water, eco-friendly toiletries, and fast Wi-Fi for boarding passes, cruise apps, and last-minute check-ins.

There's room to open your suitcase, lay things out for the morning, and not trip over your own bag.

Room features vary by room type. See what’s included in each room.

A Pool Worth Showing Up Early For

It's not a party pool. It's a stay-a-while pool, where plans quietly reschedule themselves.

It sits in a landscaped courtyard at the center of the hotel, so it becomes part of your day without announcing itself. You pass it on your way to coffee. You pass it coming back with a book. There's room to float, to sit, to do nothing in particular. Shade when you want it. Sun when you don't.

Whether you're arriving the night before or staying after you dock, it's the kind of place that makes "just one more hour by the pool" feel like the right decision.

Small by Design

We might only have 42 rooms, but we take up an entire block, which means you're not lining up behind a hundred other guests on embarkation morning. Check-in is quick, checkout is a breeze, and your pre-cruise morning feels manageable, instead of hectic. It also means a quieter courtyard, more space by the pool, and the kind of stay that always feels personal. What can we say, sometimes less really is more.

Free Self-Parking

Parking is free while you're our guest. No nightly fees. No add-ons. And let's be honest, that's money better spent on a shore excursion, a decent bottle of wine, or a few poolside drinks once you're onboard.

Can I park at the hotel during my cruise?
Given our small boutique size, we're not able to offer long-term parking while guests are away on cruises. For multi-day cruise parking options, see our off-site and on-site terminal parking options section of our PortMiami overveiw.

Between Miami's Most Interesting Neighborhoods

We're in the MiMo Historic District on Biscayne Boulevard, close to Wynwood, Little River, and the Miami Design District, which is great if you want to explore a little before you sail or after you return.

It's an easy place to land before you sail or settle back into when you return. Restaurants, cafés, and local spots worth wandering into are right around the corner, including a few we love in our guide to nearby foodie favorites.

Quick distances:

  • 1.2 miles to Wynwood Walls
  • 2.4 miles to the Design District galleries
  • 9 miles to Miami International Airport
  • About 20 minutes to PortMiami
  • 20–30 minutes to Miami Beach (traffic depending)

Art, food, and culture within reach. The noise kept at a polite distance.

Do you offer a shuttle to PortMiami?
No we don’t operate a shuttle. Most guests use rideshare or taxi for direct curbside drop-off at the cruise terminals.

Can you hold our luggage if we arrive early?
Yes. Check-in begins at 3:00 PM, but we're happy to store your luggage if you arrive on a morning flight or cruise. Drop your bags at the front desk and head out for lunch, a walk around the neighborhood, or a little sightseeing while we get everything ready.

Before And After You Go

Settle in before you sail. Decompress after you dock.

The Night Before You Sail

Most cruise stress happens before you ever step on the ship. Flight delays. Slow baggage claim. Miami traffic doing what it does best. By the time many travelers reach their hotel, the day before sailing, the day already feels spent. Here, the night before your cruise stays simple. Check in. Unpack once. Dinner nearby. A swim if the mood hits. Sleep.

Dinner nearby:

The MiMo District is one of Miami's best-known foodie neighborhoods, and you're in the middle of it.

  • Phuc Yea: Four-time Michelin Bib Gourmand recipient for Viet-Cajun fusion (1-minute walk)fsimpl
  • Ni.Do. Caffé: Authentic Italian directly across the street (1-minute walk)
  • Uptown 66: Winner of "Best Taco in America" and Michelin Recommended (8-minute walk)

For more neighborhood favorites like Blue Collar, Doggi's Arepa Bar, and the Michelin-starred Boia De, see our Local Foodie Guide.

Want to explore before you sail? Wynwood and the Design District are about 10 minutes away. Miami Beach is 20–30 minutes. Or stay put — the pool's open, the courtyard's quiet, and dinner is close. See our Things to Do in Miami guide for low-effort ways to see the city without exhausting yourself before boarding day.

Coming Back from Your Cruise

If you're flying out the day after you dock, book a room for disembarkation night. You'll have a place to shower, decompress, and not feel like you're sprinting straight from the ship to the airport. We offer late checkout (subject to availability) for a fee if your flight's in the afternoon. Otherwise, drop your bags with us after checkout and spend a few hours by the pool or grab lunch nearby before heading out. We'll hold your luggage until you're ready to go.
